Pupusas

My friends and I are trying to eat at different places for lunch in Savannah. In particular, we want to eat more than American cuisine. Tacos are not the only Latin American cuisine in Savannah. Joa suggested a Pupuseria in Garden City. So, I went to Google Maps on my phone and I saw that there are two pupuserias in Garden City. What is a pupuseria? A pupuseria is a restaurant that serves pupusas. Pupusas are either Salvadoran or Honduran and they are similar to Arepas. Joa and I went to Pupuseria Jireh for lunch, and it was amazing. I ordered tamales, pupusas and plantains (maduros). The local paper wrote about this place last year. Coincidentally, there was a Pupusa Fest in Los Angeles two weeks ago. I only heard about it because my friend Alexis posted about it on Instagram. The Los Angeles Times just wrote about how this Salvadoran dish is growing in popularity.

What’s New in Savannah?

Things are developing all over historic Savannah. It’s hard to keep up with all the hotels and restaurants opening here. Follow me on Facebook for weekly updates.

Here’s a brief rundown of what’s new.

Little Duck Diner

Little Duck Diner has been opened several months, and I went a few weeks ago. There’s breakfast all day, and lots of duck dishes sprinkled throughout the menu.

HUSK opened in January. I haven’t been yet, but I have heard good things.

Naan on Broughton is now open. It’s a bit pricey for me, but the garlic naan is delicious.

El Coyote is opening soon in the space where The Florence used to be. I hear that they’re opening later this month.

Two Tides Brewing is opening in March. It will be a small microbrewery on DeSoto Row and 41st.
